No. 1, odds are your head gasket and possibly your thermostat were installed upside down. If either one of them is in wrong, it will overheat very easily, especially with a load behind the vehicle.
No. 2, your brake light switch is probably just sticking. Spray some WD-40 in there and see if it helps.
No. 3, as for the brake spring, giro is right. Just pop the arm off, put the spring in the hole and hook the other end on the arm. Reinstall the arm and that's that.
No. 4, if you guys think you need a bigger truck in order to tow or bed haul your bikes, I would suggest you get a full-sized 3/4 ton. They'll ride a little rough and will probably seem to be more truck than you need, but the added security of a heavier duty frame/suspension and bigger brakes is worth it.
No. 5, if you've got water seeping into the basement, you might want to go *inside* and look for damage to the concrete. If the walls are covered inside, you may have to dig out a little in front of the foundation. I'm guessing you've either got some cold-cracking or your foundation was built without a proper moisture barrier (plastic or other impermeable membrane).
Lots of luck, hope we can still see you at the rally, send me an e-mail if you run into snags on any of this.
